Board of Directors


William Bertrand William Bertrand, Ph.D.        
 

Dr. Bertrand is co-founder and former Director of the Payson Center for International Development and Technology Transfer and is Wisner Professor of Public Health, at Tulane University, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.  He served as the Vice President for University Planning, Research & Innovation, Tulane University (1994-1998).

In 2001, he was appointed to the National Advisory Allergy and Infectious Diseases Council, the principle advisory body of the NIH's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Council.  
Dr. Bertrand has consulted for several major development organizations and has served as Principle Investigator on projects funded by NIH, PAHO, USAID/OFDA, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Xerox Foundation, the Department of Education and the Zaire School of Public Health, among others.

 
Margaret Silverstein Lee Hampton, M.A.
 

Mr. Hampton is the executive director of Amistad Research Center, an independent collection of documents, original manuscripts and photographs that contains perhaps the world's oldest, largest, most prestigious archive that chronicles African-American history.  He earned a bachelor's degree from Dillard University and a master's from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Mr. Hampton gained valuable financial experience in the for-profit sector at the Merrill Lynch brokerage firm in New Orleans and in the 1990s worked at Tulane as director of corporate relations. He then moved to positions as vice president of development in the University of North Carolina system and at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla. 

Mr. Hampton is an active tennis player and the parent of former New Orleans public school tennis team and USTA junior circuit tournament players.

Anna Monhartova Anna Monhartova, Ph.D.
Vice-President/Treasurer


Dr. Monhartova is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Tulane University. She co-founded A's & Aces.

In 2007, Dr. Monhartova was inducted to Tulane University Athletics Hall of Fame. A top-10 nationally ranked college player, Dr. Monhartova was selected as the Conference USA "Player of the Decade". Dr. Monhartova was awarded the Tennis Magazine-Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sportsmanship & Leadership Award for the Southwest Region two years in a row; in 2008, she received the Tulane Athletics Torch Award for promoting the ideals of balancing academics, athletics, life pursuits, and contributing to the revival of the community.

She served as the as the Men’s & Women’s Assistant Coach at Xavier University and Women’s Assistant Coach at Tulane. Prior to college, Dr. Monhartova was a member of the Czech national team and was ranked top 30 in the world junior rankings. She made appearances as a junior at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open and the French Open.

Debra Namias Debra Namias, LCSW, HSC
 

Ms. Namias is a Human System Consultant (HSC) to industry and in 1979 established Counseling & Consultation Center of New Orleans.

Ms. Namias has national and international experience consulting and coaching to the banking petrochemical, medical, maritime, and military industries and is currently working as a HSC to Shell/MOTIVA Refineries, Chemical Plants, and Exploration & Production in Louisiana.

Ms. Namias holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Tulane University.  She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Louisiana.  She maintains certification as a National Certified Group Psychotherapist (CGP).

Margaret Silverstein Steven F. Rueb, MBA
 

Mr. Rueb is an investment advisor and Vice-President of Dorsey Investment Securities.

He is a member of the Financial Analysts of New Orleans, the New Orleans Council of Business Economists and the University of New Orleans Finance and Economics Advisory Board.

Mr. Rueb holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Business Administration from Trinity University and a Masters of Business Administration from Tulanes A.B. Freeman School of Business.

 

Margaret Silverstein Stephanie Sarrat, MD
 

Dr. Sarrat is an honors graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. She is a board certified internal medicine physician and has practiced in Orleans parish for the past nine years. She is a partner of Drs. Louapre, Kokemor, Sarrat, and Braedt, LLC. She and her husband Henry Crocker have three children who are actively involved in tennis.

 

 

David Schumacher, JD        
President/CEO        


David Schumacher founded A's & Aces and is responsible for its overall management and strategic direction.

Mr. Schumacher played junior, collegiate and professional tennis and had an 18-year litigation and appellate practice legal career. He is a USPTA pro who has taught the game to thousands of New Orleans children and has coached at the middle school, high school and college levels.  He guided the never-ranked Tulane women’s team into the top-10, was five-times selected “Louisiana Coach of the Year", and was named Conference USA “Coach of the Decade”.

Secretary

The corporation’s secretary is Margaret Silverstein, a native New Orleanian who graduated from the Tulane University School of Law.  Associated with the firm of Baker, Donaldson, Mrs. Silverstein is listed in The Best Lawyers in America, and her practice areas include business law and investments.

Mrs. Silverstein and her husband, Jimmy, have two children, Caroline and Robert. Robert is a member of the Ben Franklin High School tennis team that won the State Championship in 2008. Ms. Silverstein is a 3.0 NTRP player.
