"I recently witnessed the QuickStart tennis and tutoring after-school programming at Arthur Ashe School with its K and 1st grade students, and saw enthusiastic children being instructed by very well-qualified, committed volunteers and staff." - Randolph Gregson, Former USTA President
A’s & Aces is recruiting after-school volunteers to assist 1st-4th grade public school children with reading, homework, life skills and/or tennis.
We use the USTA’s QuickStart Tennis programming (portable short courts with small rackets and large foam balls) on the elementary school playgrounds. The model varies according to each school’s situation, but usually we rotate the groups with half of the children having tennis instruction and the other half receiving academic assistance/life skills.

We have volunteer opportunities to work with our staff at one of the following schools each weekday; locations and times are:
• Arthur Ashe Charter (3649 Laurel St.); M & W, 3:30-5:00
• Milestone Sabis Academy (5951 Patton St., at State St.); M & F, 3:30-5:30
• Lafayette Academy Charter (2727 S. Carrollton Ave., at Walmsley Ave.); M & W 9:15-11:00AM
• Edward Hynes Charter (3774 Gentilly Blvd); T & Th, 3:00-5:00
|
Enthusiasm is required, but no tennis/tutoring experience is necessary. Training will be provided. Adults, retirees, college and mature high school students are welcome; students can earn required community service hours through this program.
If you or someone you know may be interested please contact us at: AsAndAces@gmail.com
We also welcome volunteers to help with fundraising, resource management, and other activities.
