SPECIAL PROGRAMS & EVENTS

A's & Aces provides children with many special programs and activities throughout the year, from our annual National Tennis Month events, tennis apparel distributions, to national contests and fellowship, internship, and scholarship opportunities.  

Scholarships and Awards  

The Coach David Schumacher Tennis Scholarships is given to competitive players who demonstrate excellence on and off the tennis court.  The goal of this scholarship is to provide high-performing players with support and opportunities to further develop their game and compete at the Southern level and beyond.  Scholarship recipients are selected based on several criteria, including tennis accomplishments and potential, USTA ranking/WTN rating, as well sportsmanship and character.  

National Tennis Month Days 

National Tennis Month (NTM) events provide tennis opportunities for the whole family.  NTM events are held in May.  

USTAF NJTL National Essay Contest

Each year the USTA Foundation holds a national essay contest with a chance to win a trip to the US Open and New York.  Since 2010, A's & Aces has had thirteen Southern Winners for writing best essays in Louisiana and three National Winners (2019, 2025, 2026).
Tennis Exchange & Community Boutique:
A fun opportunity for families to find tennis rackets, clothing, shoes, and accessories at no cost while promoting sustainability and community.
The Tennis Exchange & Community Boutique is a regular event where A's & Aces’ families can choose donated clothing, shoes, and accessories for themselves and their families.
Our goal is to:
  • reduce waste – reuse and recycle
  • provide families with quality tennis apparel at no cost
  • encourage sustainability
  • strengthen our community
  • educate our children about ‘slow fashion’ and circular economy models
Everything is free.  Together we are creating a healthier, more sustainable, and more connected tennis community.
TrueSport Days:
TrueSport Day brings special guests to A's & Aces, such as Amobi Okugo, a professional soccer player, who visited our summer camp in 2023 or Josh Hartman, a 3x National Champion in track cycling who came in 2026.  TrueSport is a program of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency that focuses on life-skills, sportsmanship, and leadership.
