Volunteers serve in various capacities:
- Direct service with the children - for example, as classroom tutors, guest readers, tennis coaches and/or tournament court monitors.
- Administrative assistance - for example, serving on an event committee, or using special skills (fundraising, photography, drafting marketing materials, website content, etc.)
Our Volunteers Provide Invaluable Impact
Thanks to our committed volunteers, A's & Aces is able to provide the lower teacher-pupil ratios that make an important difference in results. Many studies show positive effects attributable to reduced class size. Teachers give students more individualized instruction in smaller classrooms and on the courts. Many of our young students crave the attention they receive in small groups and the one-to-one opportunities.
Volunteer Profile: Nina Karp (Bat Mitzvah project)
Nina, an 8th grader at Newman, has been playing tennis since she was 3 years old. She has always had a passion for the sport so when she was deciding to pick a non-profit as part of her Bat Mitzvah, it was easy to go with her passion: tennis. In school, Nina's favorite subjects are math and science, and she felt that A’s & Aces hit all the correct points about giving back to the community with tennis and tutoring. As part of her Bat Mitzvah project, Nina raised over $860 in addition to getting cases of tennis balls and nets!! Community service is a significant part of Nina’s life: during the COVID-19 pandemic, she has volunteered with Second Harvest food bank and raised money for UNITY of Greater New Orleans to purchase 8,400 KN95 masks for the homeless.
